Tanto en español como en inglés se puede hacer una propuesta o dar un consejo en forma de una pregunta lo que es más cortés que hacerlo de forma afirmativa. Al usar el subjuntivo o formularlo de manera negativa (no debes ir....) es todavía más cortés. La tabla abajo muestra los verbos que pueden servir para hacer propuestas o dar consejos.

could pregunta Could we have dinner at our favourite restaurant?
afirmación You still could apologise to her.
would pregunta Wouldn't it be advisable/wise/better/nicer etc. to do it this way?
afirmación I would prefer/advise/think it better to change plans.

Como en los capítulos anteriores también es posible proponer o aconsejar algo con un verbo pleno.
