Ya hemos visto en el capítulo frases interrogativas incompletas que en ciertas construcciones con el adverbio interrogativo why se omite la preposición to al añadir un infinitivo. Con otros adverbios interrogativos se pone la preposición to.

| ... junto con verbos como to ask, to decide, to discover, to explain, to find out, to forget, to know, to show, to tell, to understand, to wonder sirve para sustituir una frase subordinada. |
| ... delante de verbos como to forget, to tell, to teach y to learn se usa la construcción how + infinitivo + to para describir la manera en la que se hizo / hace una cosa. Si solo se trata de describir la acción, se usa el infinitivo con to (sin how). |
